A free offspring from LimeWire to create a Gnutella client that does not filter any content

FrostWire is a file sharing client; this translates into uploading and downloading data from across the world at decent speeds, no costs involved. It also bundles a chat utility and an audio player.

Once installation finishes, you will enter the setup wizard, where you can configure language, the torrent data save folder, and your chat nickname.

The user interface is quite friendly. Here you select the search engines (ClearBits, Mininova, ISOHunt, BTJunkie, Extratorrent, Vertor, The Pirate Bay, or Monova) and file types (all, documents, programs, audio, video, images, or torrents).

Next, you just enter the search keyword and wait for the results. You can view the size of the file, source, the date it was created, quality and extension type.

By right-clicking a result, you have the option to buy the item online, download it (or partially download it), copy magnet and hash, or repeat the search with that exact result.

In addition to searching for something, you have access to a library in which you can organize files, another section in which you can transfer files to phone and tablets, and a place where you can chat with other users (unfortunately, this feature didn't work in our case, due to network problems).

FrostWire is also highly configurable. The Options section allows you to define speed limits, iTunes song import features, keyword filters, etc.

In conclusion, FrostWire is a great file sharing system that enables you to easily find and quickly download various documents and media content. The download speeds are comparable to those of any other respectable file sharing client, maybe even better. FrostWire description

FrostWire, a BitTorrent client (formerly a Gnutella client), is a collaborative effort from many Open Source and freelance developers located from all around the world.
Using the most recent version of FrostWire allows users to enjoy the best program functionality. Bugs reported in older versions have been fixed for the latest version. Any users with FrostWire 2.5 or earlier MUST update.

FrostWire is a free Gnutella client based on LimeWire distributed under terms of the GPL. It was created in September 2005 after LimeWire LLC received a cease and desist letter.

FrostWire is a useful file sharing utility that gives you the possibility to transfer files from and to your computer.

The LimeWire open-source community then decided to create FrostWire, - a free offspring using the publicly available sourcecode from LimeWire to create a Gnutella client that does not filter any content.

Note: Some antivirus and antispyware programs flag FrostWire as being infected/malware, although the application is perfectly safe and does not pose a threat to your system. This is called a 'false positive'. The term false positive is used when antivirus software wrongly classifies an innocuous ( inoffensive ) file as a virus. The incorrect detection may be due to heuristics or to an incorrect virus signature in a database. [Similar problems can occur with antitrojan or antispyware software.]
