Machete is an application that you can use to perform various operations on your audio and video files (e.g. AVI, MP4, MOV, FLV, MP3), including splitting.

The interface of the application is clean and intuitive. Media files can be imported by using either the file browser or "drag and drop" method.

So, you can make a selection by marking the start and end time, in order to cut a piece of a track.

But you can also copy or delete the selection, paste at the current position, as well as jump to a particular frame.

In addition, you can view file properties, edit tags (e.g. track number, title, artist, comment), save the current frame, add an audio stream, and extract the audio or video stream.

Furthermore, you can insert a file at the current position (as long as it has the same frame rate as the initial track), use the undo and redo functions, switch to full screen mode, disable the toolbar, go to the previous or next key frame, and others.

The simple-to-use program runs on a moderate amount of system resources, includes a comprehensive step-by-step tutorial with snapshots for beginners and worked smoothly during our tests. We haven't come across any issues, since Machete did not freeze, crash or pop up errors.

The bottom line is that Machete is a very good program for editing audio and video tracks, even if it doesn't necessarily come up with some amazing features. We strongly recommend it to all users, regardless of their experience level.

Machete  3.8 Build 22 Description

Machete is a quick and easy video editor. It is an ideal solution for simple "slicing" of your video files: you can delete unnecessary fragments (e.g. cut out commercials), copy, move, mix and save individual pieces.

This means that Machete combines functionality of both a video splitter (cutter, trimmer) and a video joiner (for joining video files with the exactly the same formats) and more. Additional functions available: ability to extract and save video and audio streams as separate files, ability to add/replace audio stream in AVI, MP4, WMV and FLV files and ability to save a video frame as a bitmap (.bmp) file.

You can also view and edit file tags (metadata) associated with any of the supported media formats. Currently, Machete can edit AVI, WMV, MP4, WMA, MP3, WAV and FLV files (most video and audio codecs are supported: DV, DivX, XviD, H.264 (AVC), WMV, MSS, WMA, MP3, AC3, AAC and others).

Support for more video formats will be added in future versions. The program's key feature is that editing of a video file is performed without re-encoding (so-called lossless editing). This not only saves time, but also prevents loss of video or audio quality. Also, it means that you would not need a powerful and expensive computer to edit your video material. After a file is edited and saved, it retains its original format.

The program does not require installation of any special codecs for multimedia editing in addition to regular decoders that are needed for video viewing and audio playback. You don't need any special skills or advanced knowledge to edit video with Machete. The best of all, you will not require any additional skills or advanced knowledge to process your videos when using this application.
